King Agamemnon is one of the characters in the book ILIAD who has one negative trait, but I think some of the characters also have the same negative trait as Agamemnon, but on his part he showed a trait that a civilized king maybe won't do. His stubbornness made me say this. In the story, particularly on book one, he kidnapped a woman who is named Chryseis and his father priest Chryses brought a treasure for his daughter to be freed and to be ransomed in the arms of Agamemnon. Agamemnon did not accept the ransom, he was not well pleased and he told the priest to be off using harsh words. The priest got scared and he went home. When he’s at home, he prayed to Apollo. Apollo heard his prayer and down from Olympus and he attacked the men of Danaans, many men died because of it. It was nine days that the arrows are falling on the camp. On the tenth day, Achilles gathered all for a conference. Many things had happened until Achilles and Agamemnon answered on each other. Agamemnon said the reason why is this happening to them. He even said that he like more Chryseis than his own wife Clytaimnestra Again they talked and answered back with each other. Because of this happening, Agamemnon decided to free Chryseis but he said to Achilles that he will take her beautiful girl named Briseis. Then the time comes when Agamemnon asked his Heralds to get Breseis and Achilles did nothing, he just let the Heralds get his Breseis.
Just on this part of the story I can clearly tell that Agamemnon has a stubbornness trait. Because of his acts a lot of men died in their place. If he just let the priest to get his daughter back this won’t happen at all and he maybe wouldn’t even have a quarrel with Achilles. But he still did not make up on what he did; he even gets the lady of Achilles. Also he wanted more Chryseis than his wife. In these days I think I can compare Agamemnon with those leaders who are greedy and who only think about themselves and who don’t care about the community they are with. Also, maybe to those people who are not contended on the things they have in their hands like the people who want more of the things that they don’t necessarily needed just like Agamemnon.
